Chelmsford Cricket Club Report for 23 & 24 September The curtain closed on the season at Chelmer Park with some rather lacklustre matches, ending in a win, a draw and a defeat. The Saturday first team were the sole winners, beating nine-man Galleywood. James Arnold and Mark Drain provided a good start but that rather went to waste with only Darren Thompson (57) holding the innings together. Thompson and Arnold both contributed half-centuries as Chelmsford reached 194. Galleywood looked unlikely to threaten that but good batting from McDermott did briefly ignite the match before he became the first of three victims for Tom Moss. At Chelmer Park, Adel Dewan’s 62 was the cornerstone of Chelmsford’s 175 for four against Little Baddow. Wickets for Tom Halsey and Umrish Pandya took the visitors out of the reckoning but were not enough to force victory. Defeat for the Sunday firsts provided a nasty symmetry to a successful season that started with an awful loss at South Woodford. A lack of bowling options allowed Lewis (108) to make hay as Hornchurch Athletic posted 228 for four. When Chelmsford’s fourth wicket fell there were still 202 runs needed. James Arnold (36) and Gary Chidley (65) put up some fight but the lower order succumbed to Hunt (4-30) and Chelmsford were all out for 156. The last fixture of the season is next Saturday, away to High Roding.
